A Daniel Hughes double gives bottom side Warrenpoint Town victory over Ballymena United and extends their unbeaten run to five games

Daniel Hughes bagged a double as Premiership basement boys Warrenpoint Town beat Ballymena United to take their unbeaten run to five games.

Hughes volleyed over in the opening minutes at Milltown while Matthew Tipton fired wide for the Sky Blues.

The opener came on 69 minutes with Hughes converting a penalty after a foul on Ciaran O'Connor.

The striker slotted home after 83 minutes to seal a win which leaves Town just a point adrift at the bottom.

It was a deserved three points for Warrenpoint although United were wasteful with the chances they created.

United defender Mark McCullagh saw his header blocked on the line by Mark Hughes and Warrenpoint forward O'Connor missed out at the backpost after good work from Darren King.

Sky Blues keeper Stuart Addis was in fine form and he twice denied Daniel Hughes before the hosts made the breakthrough.

McCullagh hauled down O'Connor and Hughes sent Addis the wrong way to put the Co Down side ahead.

Hughes sealed the points with a composed finish into the bottom corner.
