Cardiff City: Vincent Tan can become a hero says Jason Perry

Former Cardiff City captain Jason Perry believes the club's owner Vincent Tan can become a fans' hero after agreeing to change the home strip back to blue.

The rebrand to red was controversially introduced by Tan in June 2012.

But Malaysian billionaire Tan gave the go-ahead to return back to blue after a decisive consultation meeting with supporters on Thursday.

"He [Tan] can become a hero," said former Wales international Perry.

"If you think back, Cardiff City fans really take the owners to their hearts if they are willing to respect their opinion and work with them.

"So he's got an opportunity."

The Football League has given its permission for Cardiff to change their playing strip mid-campaign.

Tan has also decided to make the club's symbol - the Bluebird - more prominent on the club badge.

They will wear blue shirts at home for the first time since their Championship play-off semi-final first leg against West Ham in 2012, in Saturday's Championship game against Fulham.

Cardiff are aiming to return to the Premier League at the first attempt, but are currently 12th in the table nine points behind the play-off places.

Perry, who made 344 appearances for the Bluebirds between 1987 and 1997, hopes the change of colour is the start of an exciting time for the club.

"I just want this to be the start of something," said Perry.

"It's great to be back to blue, the badge will change, but it doesn't solve everything.

"I want to look back at this and say 'this was the start of something great for Cardiff City' and we all move forward together."
