Herefordshire Council seeks to protect Edgar Street's future

Edgar Street was Hereford United's home for the whole of the Bulls' proud 90-year history.

The future of Edgar Street, home of the now defunct Hereford United, is to be discussed by Herefordshire Council.

The ground has been unused since the Bulls played their final Southern League game there in early December.

But Herefordshire Council, who own the ground, are keen to find "a new football tenant for the pitch and ancillary sports facilities".

"We are very keen to ensure that football continues at the site," said council leader Tony Johnson.

"It has been a long and arduous journey for the fans of Hereford United and we seek to bring some stability back to the ground as soon as we can.

"We will seek expressions of interest from all interested parties and will aim to have a new tenant for the ground by the beginning of March 2015."

Hereford FC - a newly-formed Phoenix club - plan to play out of Edgar Street next season, possibly two levels down in the Midland Football League.

But they have already been told that they have to satisfy the Football Association's stipulations by 1 March.
