Hearts: Win at Rangers will end title race, says Genero Zeefuik

New Hearts signing Genero Zeefuik reckons the Scottish Championship title race will be over if his side beat Rangers at Ibrox on Friday night.

The striker moved to Tynecastle from Dutch outfit Groningen until the end of the season, marking his debut with a double against Dumbarton on Saturday.

And, with leaders Hearts 13 points clear of Rangers, Zeefuik insists a win in Glasgow will wrap up the title.

"If we beat Rangers on Friday then I think it's over," he said.

The 24-year-old, who started his career as a youth at Ajax and also had a spell with PSV Eindhoven, is hoping his two-goal haul in the 5-1 win over Dumbarton was enough to earn him another start on Friday.

"I went on to Google yesterday and searched for Ibrox," said Zeefuik. "It is a big stadium and on Friday I'm maybe going to play there.

"Every little boy wants to play in front of 40,000 people. It would be a perfect moment to play against Rangers. It will be a very good game."

Zeefuik revealed he spoke to fellow Dutchmen Virgil van Dijk, who plays for Celtic, and Mark de Vries, who played for Hearts, before signing on at Tynecastle.

Both urged him to make the switch and the striker was delighted to get the deal done.

"Last season, I was on the bench," added Zeefuik. "The trainer didn't like me and told me I wouldn't start and that I could go to another club.

"It was very difficult, only training and sometimes playing in the second team.

"When Hearts came in, I looked at the league and saw they were 13 points above Rangers, so it was easy for me to say yes.

"I want to score many goals. I am 24, so I want to play as well. I don't want to be on the bench.

"I'm a big guy, I can hold the ball up and I can score.

"I will get fitter. I think I'm 75% fit just now. I think in two weeks I will be 100%."
