Bywater played in the top flight for West Ham and Derby

Goalkeeper Stephen Bywater has left Championship club Millwall after having his contract at the club cancelled.

The 33-year-old has not featured for the Lions since February 2014, and had a spell on loan at League One side Gillingham earlier this season.

Bywater, who moved to The Den in summer 2013, made 14 appearances during his time with the Gills.

The former West Ham and Derby stopper becomes the fourth player to be released by Millwall this month.

Lions boss Ian Holloway cancelled the contracts of Josh Wright, Paul Robinson and Jermaine Easter earlier this month as he looks to free up funds to bolster his squad in the January transfer window.
