Brighton have signed Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal on a two-and-a-half year deal, subject to a work permit, for an undisclosed fee.

The midfielder, 26, signed for the Scottish champions from Maccabi Haifa in 2010.

He made 131 appearances for Celtic, scoring three goals - and has won 26 Israel caps scoring one goal.

"We're delighted to have agreed a deal for someone of Kayal's stature," said Brighton manager Chris Hughton.

Hughton also told the club's official website:, external "He's got plenty of experience with Celtic, and is an international.

"He is a good age and is a player who is really dynamic in midfield. He can play a few roles, including the holding role, but he also has the energy to break forward.

"He can play in a two or three-man midfield, so that gives us flexibility there. He has been involved in some big games at Celtic and he will give us another real good option in midfield."
