Hamilton Accies left-back Stephen Hendrie has signed a pre-contract agreement to join West Ham in July.

The Lanarkshire club say they have reached a deal on compensation for the 20-year-old, who has made more than 100 appearances for the club.

"I just cannot wait to get started," he told the West Ham website. "I'm thrilled to bits.

"Since I was a kid I always wanted to play in the Premier League and I've got a fantastic chance to do that now."

Last week, Accies vice-chairman Ronnie MacDonald said the move was off and was critical of West Ham's approach.

"I couldn't care if I never heard from them again," said MacDonald.

However, the transfer was revived with Hendrie travelling to London on Wednesday for talks with the English Premier League club.

"When the summer comes around I'll be working as hard as I can and see what happens," added Hendrie.

"Every pre-season is crucial but having signed for West Ham it's going to be even more so. It's unbelievable. I just need to get as fit as I can and hopefully play some games.

"It's a good challenge, a new challenge and I'm just buzzing to get started."
