Fiorentina defender Gonzalo Rodriguez scored his fifth goal of the season

Neither Genoa nor Fiorentina could gain ground in Serie A in the push for a Champions League place as a goal in each half meant a share of the points.

Genoa finished the game with 10 men after defender Nicolas Burdisso was sent off following a second booking nine minutes from the end.

The home side led when a shot from Stefano Sturaro hit a post and went in off the back of goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu's head.

Gonzalo Rodriguez's header made it 1-1.

Sturaro should have marked his final game for Genoa before moving to Juventus with a goal as the hosts went ahead after 14 minutes.

The midfielder, 21, missed the target from six yards but got a slice of luck when his effort came back off the post and went in via Tatarusanu.

Ten minutes after the break Matias Fernandez's cross was deflected for Rodriguez to nod in at the back post but despite the numerical advantage, Fiorentina could not force a late winner.
