Clarke Carlisle leaves hospital six weeks after collision with lorry

Television pundit and former footballer Clarke Carlisle has left hospital, six weeks after being involved in a collision with a lorry.

The 35-year-old was struck by a lorry on the A64 near York on 22 December and airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary.

Carlisle's wife, Gemma, revealed she was bringing her husband home.

She tweeted: "Nearly 6 weeks on... Today I'm collecting Mr C to come home full time! Thanks once again for your amazing support and love."

The former Professional Footballers' Association chairman made more than 500 appearances during a playing career spanning 16 years at nine clubs - Blackpool, QPR, Leeds United, Watford, Luton (loan), Burnley, Preston (loan), York and Northampton.

From 2010 to 2013, Carlisle was chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association and remains on the PFA's management committee.
