Pitman, 27, has started 19 of their 41 games so far this season.
He is now their joint-second top scorer with 13 after a hat-trick in the 4-0 win against Blackpool on Saturday.
"If you would have told me in pre-season that with nine games to go I would have 13 goals and played as much as I have, I would have taken it," Pitman told BBC Radio Solent.
"Scoring two in a 5-1 win [at Fulham] and scoring three in a 4-0 win - it's gone well."
