Exeter City have signed Preston North End winger Lee Holmes on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old had a loan spell with the Grecians' League Two rivals Portsmouth from November to January.

The former Derby County and Southampton man could make his debut for Paul Tisdale's side in Tuesday's home game against Stevenage.

Exeter are currently 11th in the table, six points adrift of the top seven with 10 games to play.

After taking seven points from their last three matches, boss Paul Tisdale believes his side will need to maintain that kind of form if they are to stand a chance of breaking into the play-off places.

"We've contrived over the last couple of months to put ourselves out of the play-off hunt by not winning enough games. By winning games over the next month that might change," he said.

"But at the moment we're not close to that situation."

Exeter last reached the play-off places in the middle of December, having begun the season at the wrong end of the table.
