Richard Brindley: Rotherham defender joins Colchester United

Struggling League One side Colchester United have signed defender Richard Brindley on loan from Championship club Rotherham until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old right-back has played just four games for Steve Evans's side this season.

Brindley has also had loan spells with Scunthorpe and Oxford this term, making three appearances for each club.

"He's got Championship experience and in non-league football locally," U's boss Tony Humes told BBC Radio Essex.

"He's someone we've been aware of for a while.

"It's great to get someone so quickly having lost Elliott Hewitt back to Ipswich.

"Richard will be with us until the end of the season and depending on how well he does, who knows, there might be possibilities to take it beyond."

Colchester sit are 23rd in League One, four points from safety with eight games to play.
