Gibraltar boss David Wilson ready for 'dream' Hampden bow

Scotsman David Wilson said it will be a dream come true when he leads Gibraltar out at Hampden on Sunday.

The Glasgow born 40-year-old is in temporary charge of Gibraltar following the departure of Allen Bula, to whom he was assistant to since April 2013.

"It's phenomenal. I keep saying it but it's Roy of the Rovers," Wilson told BBC Scotland.

"It's a dream - every boy's dream is to go to Hampden one day. I just never expected it with another country."

Gibraltar have lost all four qualifiers so far, losing heavily to Poland, Republic of Ireland, Georgia and Germany, and arrive in Scotland having conceded 21 goals with none scored.

Wilson, who was a youth player at Kilmarnock, is excited at the challenge of facing Gordon Strachan's men.

He said: "It's lovely to be home, back in God's country this is for me.

"To work with these guys [Gibraltar] is absolutely brilliant, and to bring them to challenge my country, in Hampden.

"I've tried and I just can't imagine it. I've gone through excitement, trepidation, a bit anxious, everything.

"But, I've got back to that 'We're here to enjoy it'. No-one's expecting us to do anything, so whatever we do it's going to be fantastic."

Wilson insists all the pressure is on Gordon Strachan's men, and says his team are far better than what the results in Group D suggest.

"They [Scotland] have to win, and they have to increase their goal difference for our fault of letting seven in twice.

"The pressure's on them, it's not on us at all."

He added: "If you watched these guys on a Saturday in our league back at home you would probably level it with a good non-league. But when they come together as this group they really raise the bar.

"We defend very well as a unit. The Germany game proved that and we can actually go forward and play well away in Estonia, how we played against Malta, so the guys rise to the challenge.

"They're not world class yet, they're not Premier League in England or Scotland yet, but they rise to the challenge well."
