Charlton Athletic midfielder Alou Diarra has signed a new contract with the Championship club.

The 33-year-old former France international will now remain at The Valley until the summer of 2016, with the option of an extra year.

Diarra has scored one goal in six appearances since joining the Addicks on a short-term deal in February.

"Alou is a player with a wealth of experience," Charlton head coach Guy Luzon told the club website., external

"He is a versatile player and he has worked very hard since he came here."

Diarra, who has won 44 international caps, has had spells at Lens, Bordeaux, Marseille and West Ham.

He played in the 2006 World Cup final for France and captained his country for one game at the 2010 World Cup.
