John Coleman: Accrington boss says club are not bargain shop

Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman has said his League Two club are not going to be a "bargain shop" if other sides target their best players.

Coleman was speaking after Stanley's 3-1 over Carlisle on Monday where midfielder Josh Windass, 21, impressed.

"We're definitely going to get away from the fact that people bargain shop at Accrington," Coleman, whose side are 17th, told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We're not going to be Aldi anymore that is for sure."

He added: "If people want to try to take our players then they have to pay the going rate.

"We're not in a position where we have to fire sale at the end of the season, the club is in a stable position."

Josh Windass has scored five goals in 35 appearances for Stanley this season

Former Huddersfield midfielder Windass, who joined from Harrogate Railway, is the son of ex-Hull striker Dean.

Coleman believes that Windass could move for a similar amount to Matt Grimes who went from fellow League Two side Exeter to the Swansea City for a fee of £1.75m.

"If Josh keeps going the way he is - he's still got a lot to learn decision making wise - he could soon be the hottest property around," added Coleman.

"I know Grimes was at Exeter and he went for big money and if Josh keeps progressing the way he should do, he has got all the tools to be the next big thing.

"He might see the security of our club if we get £1m for him, but he's got to keep his feet on the ground."
