Notts County's win mean Bristol Academy remain without a victory this season

Notts County earned their first Women's Super League 1 victory of the season against managerless Bristol Academy.

Bristol's seventh defeat of 2015 in all competitions came 48 hours after head coach Dave Edmondson was sacked by the top-flight's bottom side.

Aileen Whelan put Notts ahead before two goals in two minutes from Rachel Williams and Fern Whelan made it 3-0.

Sophie Ingle and Nicola Watts replied for the hosts but Williams' second and Alex Greenwood's penalty made it 5-2.

Victory lifts FA cup semi-finalists Notts two places to fourth in the table, while Bristol remain without a point this season.

England striker Ellen White created the Lady Magpies' opening goal, finding Aileen Whelan who stroked the ball past goalkeeper Mary Earps on 14 minutes.

Williams volleyed home the second and Fern Whelan soon added a third, meeting a Greenwood free-kick to head in her first goal for Notts since joining from Everton.

Ingle raced clear to spark Bristol's fightback on 51 minutes, with Watts making it 3-2 four minutes later.

But Williams scored her second and Greenwood added a penalty after Frankie Brown brought down Aileen Whelan in the box to seal Notts' win.
