Jamie Cureton: Dagenham striker happy with new contract

Veteran striker Jamie Cureton says it was an easy decision to sign a new one-year contract with League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge.

The 39-year-old scored 19 league goals this season, finishing as the second-highest goalscorer in the fourth tier.

"I've been in discussions. I was always happy to stay and sign," he told the club website.

"The way they've treated me, it just seems silly to maybe move away from something that has been so good."

He added: "I've been in situations before where I've moved and thought after maybe I should've stayed."

Cureton joined the Daggers on a free transfer after leaving Cheltenham last summer.

He made the most appearances of any player in the Dagenham squad this season, missing only one league game and scoring a total of 20 goals in 48 outings.

"To get 20 goals and play the amount of games I have has been very good," the former Norwich trainee said.

"It's nice to get something done just as the season is finishing so I can enjoy my summer."

Cureton, who has played for 13 different League clubs, agreed a new deal with the Daggers on Sunday.

He has scored a total of 278 goals in England and earlier this season he set himself the target of reaching 300 career goals before he retired.
