Crewe Alexandra: Steve Davis plans new contract offers

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has begun planning new contracts after his side secured their League One status.

The Railwaymen avoided relegation by two points to finish in 20th place and Davis has already begun preparing his squad for next year.

"A lot of players will be weighing up their options and have gone away to think about where they will go next," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

"It is very early into negotiations, talks and decisions."

One player Davis is keen to retain is 20-year-old winger Ryan Colclough, who scored in crucial wins against Sheffield United and Coventry City.

"We're just waiting for Ryan to come back to us," Davis said.

"I think he should stay because he knows there is a support mechanism in place to help him improve and develop."

Similarly Greg Leigh, who impressed in 42 appearances on loan at the club from Manchester City, is looking for a permanent contract.

Davis also confirmed he is yet to talk to many other players about new deals with the club.

The contracts of first-team regulars Matt Tootle and Anthony Grant are due to run out next month, but Davis has allowed them time off before discussing new proposals.

"We will speak to all players in due course. We've got a few more to talk to and then we'll see where we go next," Davis said.

However, the club have taken the decision to release first team players Liam Nolan and Billy Waters from their contracts, as well as Anthony Stewart and Vadaine Oliver, who struggled to make an impression.
