Motherwell striker Scott McDonald has had the red card he was shown against St Mirren rescinded and reduced to a yellow after an appeal.

It means the Australian will be free to play in the final Scottish Premiership game of the season - and their play-off against Rangers or Hibernian.

The 31-year-old had been facing a two-game ban after being ordered off for violent conduct on Saturday.

Referee Brian Colvin had ruled that McDonald had elbowed Thomas Reilly.

The 2-1 defeat by St Mirren ensured that Well have finished second bottom of the table behind Ross County and Kilmarnock.

In 28 May's first leg of the play-off final, they will face the winner of the semi-final between the sides who finished second and third in the Championship.

Hibs host Rangers on Saturday with the Ibrox side travelling to Edinburgh with a 2-0 lead.

Later that day, Motherwell host Partick Thistle in their final league game.
