Fiorentina have sacked head coach Vincenzo Montella and accused him of a "lack of respect".

Montella, 40, had two years to run on his contract but has been linked with Napoli and AC Milan, external after guiding Fiorentina to fourth in Serie A.

Officials acted after accusing Montella of a lack of commitment.

"We would have expected to see the coach behave in a clearer, more respectful and less ambiguous manner," said a Fiorentina statement., external

Former Roma and Italy striker Montella was appointed by Fiorentina in 2012 after they sacked Delio Rossi for attacking his own player Adem Ljajic in a spat over a substitution.

Fiorentina have finished fourth in Serie A in each of the three seasons he has been in charge.

The club will compete in the Europa League group stage next season.

Montella's playing career also included a loan spell at Fulham, external in 2007 when he was at Roma.
