FC Infonet hammer Virtsu Jalgpalliklubi 36-0 in Estonia Cup

But reality, and a strong dose of it, has been handed out to three teams in round one of Estonia's cup competition with victories of 14-0, 20-0 and 36-0 recorded.

FC Infonet, from the country's capital Tallinn, handed out the drubbing to Virtsu Jalgpalliklubi - a team from a town with a population of about 500.

But far from embarrassed, Virtsu are enjoying their prominence in gaining headlines, stating the number of visits to their website are "growing at continuing at a rapid pace".

Trailing 13-0 at half-time, Virtsu refused to resort to damage limitation and in front of a crowd of 83, leaked 23 goals in 47 second-half minutes.

Estonia Under-21 defender Trevor Elhi managed to find the net 10 times as Infonet, fifth in Estonia's top tier, began their quest for a maiden domestic cup success.

In a competition which seemingly allows the country's smallest teams a shot at glory, Infonet's win on Saturday arrived on the weekend Rapla Lokomotiv lost 20-0 to Kuressaare and Trans Narva beat Eestimaa Kasakad 14-0.

Infonet's rout matches the British record - when Arbroath beat Bon Accord in the Scottish Cup in 1885.

And the margin seems tight when consideration is given to AS Adema's 149-0 win over Stade Olympique L'Emyrne in 2002. That world-record score was set in a Madagascar league match when Stade Olympique continuously scored own goals as part of a protest.
