Guernsey's women have ended their eight-year wait for a win at the Island Games after beating Ynys Mon 3-2.

The Sarnians had not registered an Island Games victory since beating the Greenland 3-0 in Rhodes in 2007.

Katie Williams' free-kick gave Ynys Mon the lead midway through the first half, but Jess Page equalised for Guernsey.

Vicky Rang put Guernsey ahead early in the second half and Eleanor Holden secured the win, before Williams got what proved to be a late consolation.

"I have an unbelievable amount of proudness. Every single girl battled until the end," Rang, who captained the Guernsey side, said.

"I'm feeling so overwhelmed," added teammate Natalie Bianco.

"It's the first time since I've been involved in women's football that we've won a game," she added.

Guernsey were already out of the tournament having lost their opening two matches.

They were beaten 2-0 by the Isle of Wight in their opener before losing 8-0 to Aland, who have not lost an Island Games match since 2005.

Jersey's women are through to the semi-finals after they beat Hitra 2-0 to top their group.

Eve Watson glanced home Jodie Botterill's second-half cross to open the scoring for the hosts.

The St Paul's midfielder got her second with 14 minutes left as she powered home Botterill's pass from 12 yards out after a flowing attack.

But Hitra made it a nervous final few minutes as Nina Antonsen lobbed Catherine Overbury soon after Watson's second.

Skipper Botterill had seen a first-half penalty saved by Tonje Forsnes and also had a goal disallowed for a push in the penalty area.

The last time Jersey made it out of the group stages was in 2003, when they won the bronze medal.

"It's absolutely amazing," Watson told BBC Radio Jersey.

"We've worked so hard as a team to try and get through to these semi-finals, it's just an unbelievable experience.

"All the girls are so happy that we've finally got to the semi-finals as all our hard work has shone through."
