Cardiff City: Russell Slade open to Paul Trollope role with Wales

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade says head coach Paul Trollope has his blessing to join Wales' coaching team.

Kit Symons has stepped down from manager Chris Coleman's backroom team to concentrate on his role as Fulham boss.

Trollope joined Cardiff in February and would combine his Bluebirds duties with a role as Wales assistant on a part-time basis.

"I'm proud of the fact he's got that opportunity," Slade said.

Former Wales midfielder Trollope, 43, previously managed Bristol Rovers and was also first-team coach at Birmingham City and Norwich City.

During five years as manager of Bristol Rovers, he guided the club to promotion to League One in 2007.

Slade confirmed the Football Association of Wales and the Championship club were in talks over Trollope.

"There is dialogue now between both bodies. If things get sorted out he'll take it and it will be great for the football club," said Slade.

Former Leyton Orient boss Slade saw his side held to a 2-2 draw by Shrewsbury Town in their latest pre-season friendly on Saturday.

The Cardiff City manager described the game at the New Meadow as a "useful workout" ahead of a week-long training camp in the Netherlands.

They face Israeli side Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona on Tuesday before Friday's friendly against Sparta Rotterdam.

Slade's side conclude their pre-season campaign against Watford and AFC Bournemouth ahead of the Championship opener against Fulham on 8 August.
