Championship side Reading edged through to the League Cup second round with an extra-time win over League One outfit Colchester.

Chris Gunter scored the winning goal with 115 minutes played, slotting in after Oliver Norwood's pass.

Nick Blackman was denied superbly at point-blank range by Colchester goalkeeper Sam Walker early on.

And Reading keeper Ali Al-Habsi denied Alex Gilbey in extra time, before Gunter's late winner.
