Commons celebrates shooting Celtic into a 2-0 lead

Kris Commons refused to single out Celtic team-mate Efe Ambrose for blame following the 2-2 draw at home to Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

A poor headed back-pass from Ambrose set up the visitors' first goal right on half-time.

"Mistakes are part and parcel of football," said Commons, who had shot Celtic into a 2-0 lead.

"I think Efe played well. If you went through a full game without making a mistake, you'd be some player."

Prior to scoring, Commons set up Leigh Griffiths for the opening goal at Celtic Park but a double from Fenerbahce substitute Fernandao ensured the points were shared.

Celtic sit second in Group A on two points behind surprise leaders Molde, who they face next in Norway.

"It was a good team performance and something we can certainly build on," added Commons.

"When we put our minds to it, we're a good outfit but, at this level, you need to try and eliminate those silly mistakes.

"We were leading and feeling pretty much in control up to 44 minutes but an unfortunate error cost us the goal.

"With them scoring either side of half time it kind of took the wind out of our sails."

Celtic were undone by a late set-piece in their 2-2 draw away to Ajax on match-day one and Fernandao's second goal came directly from a corner.

However, Commons preferred to focus on a point gained against a team packed with international experience.

"Fenerbahce are a good team and they will always get chances," said the midfielder. "A draw is probably a good reflection. They showed their quality in stages."
