Fourth official Wayne Barratt (R) took over when referee James Adcock retired with an injury

A fan was pressed into service as an emergency match official during Newport County's 1-0 League Two loss to Portsmouth on Saturday.

Referee James Adcock suffered an injury during the first half and fellow official Wayne Barratt had to take his place in the middle.

With no reserve official at the game, a call was made over the tannoy at Rodney Parade for help.

Qualified Mike Hurdle answered the call and took over fourth official duties.
