Real Madrid's last league defeat was in March - against Barcelona

Real Madrid suffered their first league defeat of the season at Sevilla, leaving Barcelona three points clear at the top of La Liga going into the 21 November El Clasico.

Defender Sergio Ramos put Real ahead with a brilliant overhead kick, but injured himself in the process.

Sevilla took advantage and goals from Ciro Immobile, Ever Banega and Fernando Llorente put them in control.

James Rodriguez replied late on but Sevilla prevailed.

Earlier on Sunday Barcelona swept aside Villarreal 3-0 thanks in no small way to Neymar, who scored twice - the second of which was a brilliant solo goal.

Real, who had forward Gareth Bale, 26, back from injury, had conceded just four league goals in 10 games but looked shaky at the back once Ramos was withdrawn.

Italian striker Immobile was the first to profit from poor defending when he drove in from a tight angle after a corner was not dealt with.

And in the second half the hosts - beaten by Manchester City in midweek - added two fine team goals.

First Argentine midfielder Banega prodded in a cut-back from Ukrainian Yevhen Konoplyanka before Llorente was left unmarked to head in, ensuring that substitute Rodriguez's successful low strike was no consolation to Real.
