Linfield slipped to fifth place in the Irish Premiership after being held at home by 10-man Ballinamallard United.

The Blues took the lead in the 41st minute when Guy Bates played a good ball forward and fellow striker Andrew Waterworth scored with a skilful lob.

Ballinamallard skipper Shane McCabe was sent-off for a second yellow card after a late challenge on Jamie Mulgrew.

But, despite being a man down, United equalised in the 56th minute through Michael McCrudden's fine strike.

A free-kick into the box was half-cleared and fell to McCrudden who fired a beauty from the 18-yard line.

Glenavon fall below Glenavon who take over fourth spot following their 2-0 win away to Coleraine.

For ninth-placed Ballinamallard, the draw ended a run of five straight defeats in the league.
