St Mirren: Ian Murray resigns after six months as manager

Ian Murray has resigned as St Mirren manager after only six months in charge of the Scottish Championship club.

His decision came after a 1-0 defeat away to Dumbarton, who the 34-year-old left at the end of last season.

Murray took charge after Gary Teale was sacked following the Paisley side's relegation from the Premiership.

But his team are sitting third bottom of the table, only four points ahead of bottom side Alloa Athletic and without a home win this season.

St Mirren said on their website: "It has been confirmed this evening that St Mirren manager Ian Murray has offered his resignation to the chairman, Stewart Gilmour, which has been accepted.

"We would like to thank Ian for his hard work in his time at the club and we are disappointed that it has not worked out for all parties."

Former utility man Murray, who won six Scotland caps, played for Rangers and Norwich City in between two spells with Hibernian.

He ended his playing career with Dumbarton and helped the part-time outfit avoid relegation twice.

After a poor start to the season following Murray's move to St Mirren Park, experienced former Hibernian and Aberdeen boss Alex Miller replaced Mark Spalding as assistant manager in November.

However, the Buddies have failed to lift themselves off third-bottom spot.
