Scottish FA call for major changes in 'global level governance'

World football is in need of a "fundamental change in governance", say the Scottish Football Association.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter and Uefa boss Michel Platini have both been suspended for eight years following an ethics investigation.

The SFA had been planning to back Platini in next year's Fifa presidential election.

However, chief executive Stewart Regan has recently suggested that support would switch to Gianni Infantino.

Reacting to the news of the bans, a spokesperson for the organisation said: "The Scottish FA notes the sanctions imposed on Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini by the adjudicatory chamber of Fifa's Ethics Committee.

"Given that grounds of appeal remain open to both individuals, it would be inappropriate to comment any further than to say today's decision only reinforces the need for a fundamental change in governance at a global level in order to rebuild the trust and integrity of football."

Blatter and Platini were found guilty of breaches surrounding a £1.3m "disloyal payment" made to the latter in 2011.

Both men deny wrongdoing and intend to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
