Rory Patterson makes Derry City return

Former Northern Ireland striker Rory Patterson is back with Derry City just 11 months after leaving the club.

The 31-year-old's contract with the Candystripes was cancelled by mutual consent in January.

Patterson went on to play for Cockburn City in Australia and returned to FC United of Manchester before rejoining Derry on a one-year deal on Wednesday.

It is the third signing by new City boss Kenny Shiels after the arrival of Jordan Allan and Harry Monaghan.

Patterson joined Derry in January 2012 from Plymouth Argyle, although he was playing on loan with Linfield at the time.

The Strabane man started his career with Rochdale and made his Northern Ireland debut in 2010 after impressive displays for Coleraine.

Patterson was also a success during his first spell at the Brandwell, scoring 61 goals in 92 appearances.
