West Brom midfielder Craig Gardner says that Chelsea did not like the Baggies getting in their faces in Wednesday night's 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Gardner scored his first goal of the season to help his side take their run to seven Premier League points out of a possible nine since Boxing Day.

"Chelsea are used to having it their own way," Gardner told BBC WM.

"But we've come here and disrupted things, got in their faces and I don't think they liked it," he added.

"They're still a top team. I don't know how they're down there, but we played really well. If we'd won I don't think anyone could have moaned."

After Gardner's first-half leveller cancelled out Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta's strike, it looked as if a Gareth McAuley own goal would condemn Albion to defeat until a second equaliser from James McClean late on.

"If we'd got nothing it would have been a bit harsh," added Gardner. "But we're delighted to have come here to Stamford Bridge and get a result.

"To go behind twice against last year's champions is tough going. Not many teams would have come back from that."

Having been just three points clear of danger when they lost at Swansea on Boxing Day, the Baggies are now looking a lot more comfortable in 13th, nine points clear of trouble - a place and three points ahead of Chelsea.

Gardner on target in the capital again

Craig Gardner's last goal for Albion had also come in London in a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace in April - and he was pleased to reward boss Tony Pulis for sticking by him.

"The gaffer knows I'll play anywhere for him," he said. "But it was nice to be chosen in that midfield three and get the chance to come forward and get a few shots off."

The 29-year-old has also been on target in London for two of his previous clubs, Aston Villa and Birmingham City, both at White Hart Lane against Tottenham.

Craig Gardner was talking to BBC WM's Rob Gurney.
