Jordan Bowery: Oxford striker looks to build on dream debut

Jordan Bowery believes he can bring more goals to his game after making a dream debut for Oxford United.

Bowery scored seven minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 win at fellow League Two promotion hopefuls Portsmouth on Saturday.

The 24-year-old striker signed a deal until the end of the season on Friday after being released by Rotherham.

"I'm here to help the team progress and show everyone I've got the ability to produce," he told BBC Radio Oxford.

Former Aston Villa striker Bowery is available to play for the U's in all competitions as they continue their run in two cups as well as a tilt at automatic promotion.

Oxford are currently third in League Two with a four-point cushion and a game in hand over fourth-placed Bristol Rovers.

"I hadn't played for more than a month before this game (against Portsmouth)," he added. "I'll get my match fitness up and hopefully keep progressing.

"It was an easy decision to come to Oxford. You see where the team is in the league, as well as in the FA Cup and area final of the Football League Trophy.

"They're a great passing team. A lot of teams in this division play long-ball and scrappy stuff, but straight from the off, it was amazing to see the fast passing in tight pockets.

"That can be very hard to deal with for most sides."
