Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Bayern Munich beat 10-man Bochum to reach the German Cup semi-finals.

The hosts, who play in the second division, had the better chances before Lewandowski struck just before the break from the edge of the box.

Bochum defender Jan Simunek was then sent off for a foul in the area, but Thomas Muller's penalty was saved.

Thiago Alcantara struck from Muller's cut-back before Lewandowski's cool finish wrapped up the win.

Hertha Berlin joined Bayern in the last four by beating second division Heidenheim 3-2.

Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen progressed to the semi-finals on Tuesday with wins over Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.
