Reading manager Brian McDermott hopes to have striker Matej Vydra back from injury for their FA Cup fifth round home tie against West Brom.

Vydra, on season-long loan from Watford, missed a goalless draw against Burnley with a hamstring problem but could return against his former club.

"It's important that he's available, but we have to look after him," McDermott told BBC Radio Berkshire.

Vydra, 23, has scored six goals in three FA Cup games this season.

"If there's any doubt at all, we can't put Matej at risk," McDermott added.

Vydra's FA Cup scoring exploits have included a third-round replay hat-trick against Huddersfield and a brace in the following round against Walsall.

"Even if he's only involved from the bench, it will be a real plus for us," said McDermott.

"He hasn't trained for a while, so we will have to make the right call on him."

McDermott added that midfielder Danny Williams is extremely doubtful for the visit of the Baggies to the Madejski Stadium as he too struggles with a hamstring injury.

Reading and West Brom met at the same stage of the competition in 2010 when the Royals won 3-2, external in a replay.
