Chris Wilder: Northampton Town answering League Two talk 'emphatically'

Northampton Town boss Chris Wilder has described his players as a "special group" after three victories in a week.

The Cobblers are 10 points clear at the top of League Two after Saturday's 1-0 win against play-off hopefuls Wycombe.

"People looked at the fixtures we had: Leyton Orient away, just beaten Portsmouth; Oxford United at their place, best footballing team in the league; and Wycombe," said Wilder.

"We've answered all the talk about us quite emphatically: win, win, win."

He told BBC Radio Northampton: "We've had to work extremely hard for all three, but we can really be proud of where we're going, what we've done this week, what we've done all season, most importantly, onto the next game."

The result, thanks to a goal from Danny Rose, set a club record of nine successive league wins, surpassing the previous record of eight, set in their Division Four-winning season in 1960-61.

Wilder's men also kept a clean sheet for the fourth consecutive match, with Rod McDonald and Zander Diamond excelling in central defence.

"It's another clean sheet for the boys, I don't think (goalkeeper) Adam Smith's had a great deal to do over the last four or five games," said Wilder.

"Wycombe are dangerous opposition, they put the ball in the box and Rod and Zander have formed a great partnership and they're keeping two really good players out the team.

"We brought Luke Prosser in (from Southend) and his attitude has been first-class, and so has Ryan Cresswell's, and they understand the situation. Those boys are playing well, as are a lot of other players are at the moment."

Northampton are next in action on Tuesday when they travel to York City.
