Hampden Park pitch to be relaid for League Cup final

Hampden Park will host league games, cup finals and music concerts in the coming months

A new pitch will be laid at Hampden Park in time for the Scottish League Cup final between Hibernian and Ross County on 13 March.

The current surface will be replaced after Queen's Park's League Two game against Berwick Rangers on 5 March.

The stadium in Glasgow also hosts Scotland matches and music concerts.

Scottish Professional Football League chief executive Neil Doncaster says "it is only right that every effort" is put in to get "the best possible surface".

"We have a great deal of sympathy for the team at Hampden, and indeed all member clubs, in terms of the weather conditions they have had to contend with recently," he added.

Scotland face Denmark at Hampden on 29 March while Rihanna, Beyonce and Bruce Springsteen are among the artists due to perform at the stadium this summer.

"Like many surfaces across Scotland, Hampden Park has suffered due to prolonged inclement weather and, in particular, heavy rainfall since the turn of the year," said Peter Dallas, managing director of Hampden Park Ltd.
