Dave Jones: No fear for Cardiff City at Sheffield Wednesday

Cardiff City should have "no fear" in their Championship play-off decider against Sheffield Wednesday, says Dave Jones who managed both clubs.

Cardiff are four points behind sixth-placed Wednesday, who occupy the final play-off spot with two games left.

The Bluebirds must win at Hillsborough to have a chance of leapfrogging the Yorkshire club on the final weekend.

"Sheffield Wednesday have got it to lose. They may have a few nerves," Jones told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

"They [Cardiff] have got to go into the game with no fear."

Jones managed Cardiff between 2005 and 2011, with the Bluebirds losing the Championship play-off final to Blackpool in 2010 before being beaten by Reading in the 2011 play-off semi-finals.

The former Southampton and Wolves boss took charge of Wednesday in 2012, leaving Hillsborough the next year.

Jones believes Cardiff's recent experience of play-off encounters could give the Bluebirds the edge.

"The club has been in that position many times," he added.

"Who will be the most nervous? I would probably say Sheffield Wednesday because they've got it to lose."

Jones has been out of work since leaving Wednesday, but is now "actively seeking" a return to management.

"I took some time out to spend with my family. I've not really had a break away from it," he said.

"I've done a lot of consultancy work of late. I want to get back in and I just have to wait for the right opportunity."
