Portadown name Pat McGibbon as new boss

Pat McGibbon has been appointed Portadown manager on a two-year deal despite winning just one game from eight as interim boss.

The former NI defender was brought in on a temporary basis following Ronnie McFall's resignation on 5 March.

Portadown go into the final round of Premiership games with their top-flight status not yet secure.

"The Board have been very impressed with Pat's approach and feel that he is best placed to bring the club forward."

"Pat recently took over the position in a caretaker capacity, in what was a very difficult position for the club," added the Ports.

McGibbon will be assisted by Vinny Arkins and Trevor Williamson.

Defeat against Ballymena United on Saturday and unfavourable results elsewhere could leave the Ports in the relegation play-off spot.

McGibbon may also have to contend with a player signing ban until June next year.

The Ports were found guilty by the Irish FA of two offences in relation to undisclosed payments to players.

The outcome of an appeal against the signing ban and a £10,000 fine will be announced on Friday.
