Scottish Cup win for Rangers would not top promotion - Warburton

Rangers beat Hibernian and Falkirk to the Scottish Championship title

Rangers manager Mark Warburton says even a Scottish Cup final victory over Hibernian would not better his side's Championship triumph.

The Ibrox side have the opportunity to win their third piece of silverware this season on Saturday, having already won promotion and the Challenge Cup.

But Englishman Warburton, 53, stresses it would simply be a bonus should his side triumph at Hampden.

"There's nothing more important than achieving promotion," he said.

"There's no doubt that was our main priority.

"The target was the Championship. You go into something, that's your main target, you have to achieve that."

Euro place at stake

But Warburton was keen not to down-play the significance of a potential cup final win.

"It'd be a fantastic achievement," he insisted. "It's a Scottish Cup final. There's a place in European competition at stake [in the Europa League qualifiers].

"For us it would be a great end to what's been a good season. The Petrofac [Challenge Cup] was a bonus. The [Scottish Cup 4-0 win] against Dundee and obviously the semi-final against Celtic was a huge bonus for us. But now we have to focus on finishing on a high."

And Warburton is convinced that if his side play to their capabilities, they can prevail against Hibernian, who have beaten Rangers twice this season - the Ibrox side having won their other three meetings.

"Our job is to do what we do well and if we dominate the football, move it with quality and show good decision-making and we're clinical in the final third, we'll get the result we want," he added.

"If we don't, we're up against a very tough opponent - well-managed, good quality squad, well-organised with good individuals.

"We know the threat they pose, I'm sure they know the threat we pose.

"The idea is for us to come, deliver a performance and hopefully, fingers crossed, lift the trophy."
