Paul Heckingbottom: Barnsley will play 'without fear' in Wembley play-off final

Barnsley caretaker manager Paul Heckingbottom says his side will play with "no fear" at Wembley.

The Tykes followed their 3-0 semi-final first-leg win against Walsall with a 3-1 second-leg victory on Thursday.

"We try to dictate, dominate and impose ourselves and it was important to get that message across," Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"When the players cross that white line, they give everything to get the result that they and the fans want."

Barnsley will play at Wembley for the second time this season after beating Oxford in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final in April.

Either Millwall or Bradford will be their play-off final opponents.

Barnsley were bottom of League One in December but a run of one loss in 14 games at the start of the year saw them move into play-off contention.

"We have a group who are young, they're athletic and fit, so we play with pace and we play to their strengths," Heckingbottom continued.

"We try to use their strength, so the minimum is the opposition has to match us, and now the belief that when they apply themselves and make good decisions, they are a force."

Since Heckingbottom took over as caretaker manager in February following Lee Johnson's move to Bristol City, Barnsley have won 12 of 20 games and won their first cup final since 1912.

"Although I was working with them before, when you are the one making the decisions with all the responsibility, you get to know them that little bit more," he added.

"You do become attached and I like that. I like that you are bothered about your players and I like the fact that they are bothered about the club and the town and getting results."
