Glenn Loovens: Sheffield Wednesday centre-back injures ankle

Glenn Loovens began his career with Feyenoord and had spells with Cardiff, Celtic and Real Zaragoza

Sheffield Wednesday centre-back Glenn Loovens will miss the start of the season after suffering an ankle injury.

The Dutchman requires surgery, which is expected to keep him out for up to eight weeks.

The 32-year-old made 38 appearances for the Owls last season to help them reach the Championship play-off final, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat by Hull.

He has played a total of 93 games for the club since joining in December 2013 following his release by Real Zaragoza.
