Matt Taylor is relieved to put an end to "traipsing up and down the M6" after signing for Northampton on Monday.

The 34-year-old helped Burnley win promotion to the Premier League last season but wanted to move closer to his family in Oxfordshire.

"I've got to a point in life where I want to be home every night," Taylor told BBC Radio Northampton.

"I have got a young family, three young children - spending more time with them was paramount."

Taylor, who has also had spells at West Ham, Bolton, Portsmouth and Luton, signed for the League One side despite receiving "a couple of offers from Championship clubs".

He added: "I want to enjoy my football and I get the idea from meeting the chairman and meeting the manager that I can do that here."
