Dean Cox scored once in five appearances for Leyton Orient this campaign

Northampton Town boss Rob Page says he was left frustrated in his attempt to sign Dean Cox from Leyton Orient.

The announcement of Cox's departure by mutual consent from the O's was on Thursday, having scored 59 goals in 275 appearances for the O's.

If his contract was terminated after the transfer deadline, he will not be able to join an EFL club until January.

"He was one of many that we were close to getting done. It was a frustrating evening," Page said.

He told BBC Radio Northampton: "We can't go into too much detail with it. We won't talk about individuals or specifics but there were a few we were close to getting done.

"In general, we're pleased with the business we've done and we get on with winning games of football."

The Cobblers brought in midfielder Paul Anderson following his departure from Bradford City on deadline day.
