MK Dons boss Karl Robinson has backed his side to escape their current "rut" after three league defeats in the last four games if everyone pulls together.

The Dons are currently 16th in League One, having been relegated last season.

They have only won four of their 13 league matches so far, but Robinson does not believe that is a fair reflection of their performances.

"A number of people have told me we are the best team they have played," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"I'm not going to name the clubs, because it's not fair on the managers or chairmen of those clubs, but when you get told that - my wall at home has got a big dent in it because I keep having to headbutt it every time I go home, wondering what do we have to do (to win)."

The 36-year-old said: "I was told this a long time ago, when things aren't going quite right imagine someone else coming in to do your job and what would they do?

"So you have to look at what you're doing right and wrong, and we've done that. Can we change this? Can we change that? Sometimes it just boils down to 'just be lucky once, please'.

The Dons, who are five points outside the play-off places, face Bristol Rovers on Tuesday evening, followed by another home game against Southend on Saturday.

Robinson said he understood the frustrations of some supporters, but continued: "If you were to speak to the most hardened fan, they would agree that we deserve so much more than we have got so far this year.

"There's only one way of getting our of this rut and we've got to try and put it right over the next two games. If we don't, it's going to be hard, but we have to get it right."

He added: "When I first got the job, I didn't know what to do, I didn't know who I was in my own skin.

"I sit here now completely knowing who I am and who I want to be, with 350 games under my belt, over 40% win record, sold players for millions pounds, promotion, big cup results. OK relegation and a difficult start to a season, I've experienced every managerial stress and strain. I've endured it all and it's been the making of me."
