Jonjo Shelvey has continued playing for Newcastle after he was charged

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will contest his charge of using racially abusive language against Wolves' Romain Saiss in the week beginning 19 December.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence and requested a personal hearing.

The 24-year-old was charged following an incident during the Magpies' 2-0 defeat on Saturday, 17 September.

Shelvey could be banned for at least five games if found guilty by the Football Association.
