Scott Brown: Celtic captain set to play for Scotland v England in World Cup qualifier

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed he has no plans to give Scott Brown a rest in the coming month.

Rodgers confirmed he is happy for his club captain to make himself available for Scotland's World Cup qualifier against England at Hampden on 10 June.

But Brown is unlikely to be given time off in April, even if Celtic are confirmed as champions this weekend.

"It [rest] won't be in the next month, we've got important games, we've got to keep our rhythm," Rodgers said.

After Sunday's game against Hearts, Celtic have further Premiership matches against Partick Thistle, Kilmarnock and Ross County before facing Rangers in a Scottish Cup semi-final on 23 April.

Brown, 31, has been available on a game by game basis for Scotland since reversing his international retirement in November.

He played in their last two qualifying games against England and Slovenia in an attempt to help head coach Gordon Strachan and boost their ailing World Cup hopes.

With Celtic beginning their Champions League qualifying campaign a month after the England match, there were concerns that Brown would not have enough time off to rest this summer.

"All I know is that my first thought is for Celtic so I have to make sure he's ready for Celtic," Rodgers said.

"But I respect the man and the player that Scotty is. And if he wants to play in this game then I shall look to find a solution with him and with Gordon to do that.

"Scott's situation was unique because he had retired. He felt the benefits of that but of course he saw a guy he totally respects needing some help so I always admire that in him.

"I really think he's been inspirational this year but I want that to continue so the detail of that we'll look at. But if you're saying will he be available from my perspective for Scotland, then of course he will be and we'll manage it accordingly."
