Sheffield Wednesday were knocked out of the EFL Cup in the first round at Cambridge last season

Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to ease into the second round of the EFL Cup with victory over Chesterfield.

The League Two side went ahead against the run of play when Daniel Pudil handled in the box and Kristian Dennis smashed his penalty down the middle.

Gary Hooper prodded in the equaliser at the near post before Steven Fletcher headed in Jack Hunt's cross.

Barry Bannan fired in the third after a mazy run before Sam Hutchinson drove in the Owls' fourth.

Chesterfield had enjoyed the better chances in the second half before Bannan scored Wednesday's third.

Chris O'Grady went close against his former club, while Dennis had a shot tipped around the post by Joe Wildsmith.

Wildsmith was carried off late on following a collision with O'Grady, forcing Hutchinson to end the game in goal.
