Aaron Greene bagged a double in Bray's victory over City in the Premier Division

Derry went down to their heaviest defeat of the season as Bray thumped the Candystripes at Maginn Park.

Aaron Greene chipped keeper Gerard Doherty to put Bray in front before quickfire strikes from Darragh Noone and Ryan Brennan.

The impressive Gary McCabe slammed in the fourth and Greene flicked past Doherty to complete the rout.

Derry midfielder Aaron McEneff missed a late penalty as City chalked up a fourth straight defeat.

The hammering also dents Derry's hopes of qualifying for the Europa League, with Bray now just a point behind fourth-placed City.

Derry lacked energy and desire in a poor display which was fully exploited by the visitors.

Bray breakthrough

McCabe's pinpoint throughball sent Greene clear and he lifted the ball over an advancing Doherty for the 20th minute opener.

Two goals in two minutes stunned the hosts as Noone slotted in from John Sullivan's cross before Brennan clipped the ball over Doherty after going clear.

Rory Patterson squandered two chances to bring Derry back into the game early in the second half with keeper Peter Cherrie denying the striker on both occasions.

McCabe netted from a rebound on 57 minutes after Brennan hit the post and Greene completed his double by firing beyond Doherty with 11 minutes left.

Derry's miserable night was summed up four minutes from time when a penalty was awarded for a pull on Lukas Schubert but McEneff blazed over from 12 yards.
