Manchester City began their Women's Champions League campaign in Austria with a 3-0 win at St Polten.

England trio Demi Stokes, Steph Houghton and Nikita Parris hit first-half goals for the FA Cup winners.

St Polten, winners of the Austrian league and cup double for the past three seasons, hit the bar in the second half with their best effort.

The result puts City in full control before next week's second leg in Manchester (Thursday, 12 October).

Nick Cushing's side, who reached the semi-finals in their maiden European campaign last season, thought they had a fourth goal late on.

But, as Houghton headed in, the England captain was ruled to be just offside.

City and St Polten are among 21 teams to have entered the competition at the round of 32 stage, with 11 teams already having come through a qualifying round group stage.
